HydroClient uses the Google Map Interface, which allows you to navigate to your area of interest in three ways:
- Enter a location in the search box
- Double click on a specific place to zoom in
- Use the zoom buttons and click and drag to pan to the location of interest
The Google Maps interface also allows you to experience the 360° street view that is represented by the orange figure located in the bottom right of the map. Click on the figure and drag to any location for a zoomed in street view. The example below shows a map of USGS sites on Barton Creek near Austin, Texas. You'll notice the pop ups displaying the data sources and the number of data series at a particular site. To view the pop ups, simply scroll over a data marker.
By placing the orange figure near the USGS sites you can get an idea of what the area looks like as shown below.
When you view search results, another feature to notice is the dynamic clustering of blue data markers that occurs when zooming in and out of a search area. As shown below, when you zoom out of a search area the blue data markers will cluster together and hold more data with a fewer number of markers. As you zoom in, the location of data sets become more accurate. This can be seen in the two screen shots below.
The above screenshot shows more accurate data site locations while the screenshot below shows how they become more generalized as you zoom out.
